The Power Behind Vision Boards

What is a vision board?

A vision board, sometimes known as an inspiration board, is a tool that represents everything you aspire to, it is an effective method of focusing on your goals and create a life that reflects your desires. Research has shown that what we focus on expands and visualisation is scientifically proven.

There are several benefits to creating a vision board;

  • Identify your vision and goals,

  • To provide clarity,

  • To set out your daily affirmations,

  • To stay focused on your intentions,

  • It is a great visualisation tool,

  • It provides motivation,

  • It makes you more productive,

  • It unleashes your inner potential,

  • It increases your chance of success in reaching your goals.

I think creating your own vision board is worth a try if it can achieve even 3 of the benefits listed above!

How do I create a vision board?

There are several formats you can choose from when it comes to making your vision board, such as an actual board, a book, an online document or a pinterest board. A physical board is usually the most preferred and effective option, however, you must choose whatever feels the most inspiring and authentic to you. You could use a notice board, a piece of card or you could even invest in a made for purpose vision board.

(I love Kikki K’s vision board - https://www.kikki-k.com/uk/shop-by/vision-board-large/10331501.html#q=vision%2Bboard&lang=en_GB&start=12 )

When you have decided on how you want to present your board, you can make a start on the fun and creative process of selecting relevant images. The images must inspire you and make you excited and/or happy. You can look online for images or find them in magazines, it is recommended to try and use images as much as possible, rather than quotes, as images have a greater impact on the visual centers of your brain. But if there is a specific quote that resonates with you then I suggest definitely including it.

Once you have your pile of images, group them into their themes and place them thoughtfully onto your vision board (do not stick them yet). It is recommended to keep the images within their themes but they can touch and connect in some way if that feels right to you. Once you have placed your images, take a step back and look at your vision board. You may find that there are some images or quotes that do not feel right to you and your desires, remove these from your board and add anything you feel might be missing.

Take a break from you board and come back to it. Reassess whether there are any other changes you would like to make, ask yourself whether there is anything that you may have missed. If you have decided that you are happy with your board, stick your images down to the board and find a location in your home to put it.

Where shall I keep my vision board?

Your vision board needs to be placed somewhere visible, where you are likely to see it at least once a day. Mine is in my bedroom so I see it first thing in the morning and last thing before sleeping but also so that it is kept personal to myself.

Is my vision board finished?

For now, yes! However, a vision board should be seen as a living document that will need changing and updating as your life and goals change. If you find in 6-months time that your vision board no longer reflects your dreams and aspirations, don’t be afraid to update it!
